Hi Year 2,
Hope you are keeping well and enjoying some of the wonderful weather.
It is important that you continue doing some learning every day while you are at home because you may not be returning to school before September. You need to keep practising everything I have taught you so that you don't forget things. Remember, you will be going into Year 3 in September.
I have started back at school this week and will continue teaching until the summer holidays. I am teaching a small group of Year 1 children but I am still your teacher until the holidays. Kate is also working with me while I teach the Year 1 group; she sends her best wishes

Information for parents:
As we welcomed back year 6 and Nursery we have learned a lot about how adults and pupils are able to use the school in a different way. Although it is strange being in school and not be able to visit classes and interact with staff and pupils it has been encouraging to see how well staff and pupils have adjusted to our new routines. If any further parents in Year 6, Nursery or Year 1 would like to take up the offer of a place in school we ask that they contact the school prior to attending - by giving the school at least a days notice we are able to ensure we are prepared for their return.
If you are dropping off or collecting pupils please ensure you arrive during these times and not before - this means we do not have queues outside school.
Start of day:
Leaves and Nursery - 8.30-8.45am
Year 6 and 1 - 8.45-9.15am
End of day:
All classes - 3.00 - 3.30pm
Take care of yourselves and each other
Thanks
Virginia

Hi Year 2,
Hope you had a good rest from any school work in the past week. It was exciting seeing all of you on Zoom just before the half term break. Some of you were shy and it was a bit noisy. If I can learn how to organise and host a zoom meeting, then we can arrange and have a better one in the future.
We are resuming our home school learning from today.
There was one of the activities on Purple Mash that could not open the week before the half term. I tried to sort it out but was not able to do so. I am sorry about that.
Some of you do your own learning projects at home besides what you also do on Purple Mash. Continue to send us pictures of these if you can.

Information on Reopening of School from the headteacher
Following my letter on the 22nd May I am able to confirm that Nursery class will reopen from Wednesday 3rd June. Staff will be in contact with parents tomorrow to update you with details.
Year 6 will also reopen from Thursday 4th June. Doug and Andrew will be in contact this week to ask if parents require a place.
Year 1 will reopen at some point next week, and reception the week after. However, this requires further planning and we will update you as soon as possible.
A letter will go out to relevant classes over the next few weeks, as there are some major changes to school routine that will need to be adhered to, including strict opening times. Also check the website for any updates.
We respect any parents decision whether to send their child back to school or not - I ask that all parents are able to do the same with one another.
Can I also ask that parents are able to respect the difficult decisions taken in planning for classes to reopen. We have been working within a constantly changing narrative. Our plans are now very comprehensive and we are able to ensure that on return, any risk to children and staff is reduced to the minimum.
Take care of yourselves and each other
Thanks
Virginia

Hi Year 2,
Thanks for all the emails and the pictures I received last week. Most of you were very busy with science investigations. It was a pleasure to see your work.
Paul has uploaded them up on Twitter and Instagram.
I have also been checking your work on Purple Mash. I write comments on your work and put it in your work folder. If you can find a folder with your name; your completed Purple Mash work is in there.
I have set this week's activities on Purple Mash. There is a time table below to show the tasks that will appear each day. The activities will remain available until Sunday this week.
Remember to continue your diary writing and also to keep all your work together in one place so you have a record of what you have done during the lockdown.
Remember, it is important to keep reading for at least 15 minutes each day.

Hi Year 2s,
How are you doing? Are you keeping busy doing your activities independently? I am hoping that you are well and can find things to do with your time. I have checked your work on Purple Mash. I liked the drawings a lot, they are so colourful.
Keep all your work together so you can show what you have done during the Coronavirus home learning.
From next week the Easter holidays will start. Most of the activities here will be for the two week holidays.

Hi Year 2s,
How are you doing? Are you well?
I have looked at some of your work on Purple Mash. Some of you have really surprised me, some of you have tried all the activities. Great!
So here are some activities for this week.
- Diary Writing (good for those of you who have to share a computer with your siblings)
Do you remember Samuel Pepys wrote a dairy about the Great Fire of London? What about you write your own diary about what is happening now. You write when you have something to write about. Write about what is happening now, that school closed and you had to be home schooled. You can write about how you are feeling and what you are thinking. Maybe your diary will be around for children to read in the future. |
- Mathematics: Fractions
Investigate fractions:
Use some pebbles, buttons, counters or any counting objects from your home
- A) Find out which numbers from 1 to 20 that can be halved. Make a list of the numbers that can be halved and those that can't? What have you noticed about the numbers?
- B) Which numbers from 1 to 20 can we share into quarters? Use the counters to help you.
- C) Challenge: Write 3 numbers that can be shared equally in thirds.
- Literacy: Reading and writing
- A) Continue with doing some reading every day.
- B) Make a list of the tricky words
- C) Draw some pictures from the story
- D) Write a retell of the story in your own words
Use your best joined up writing, use full stops and capital letters and interesting vocabulary.
Theme
Go to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfAB4BXSHOA (weather song for kids)
Listen to the song and answer these questions
- A) What weather signs do we see on a sunny day?
- B) What weather signs do we see on a rainy day?
- C) What weather signs do we see on a windy day?
- D) What weather signs do we see on a snowy day?
Please do not work too hard but do as much as you can. It is better if you can do all your work neatly in one book.
Computing: Purple Mash
There are some new To do task set up on Purple Mash. Also, finish off some of the ones you started last week.

Go to rockalingua.com and login using the username: spanish2 and the password: amarillo. Listen to the song https://rockalingua.com/videos/weather-easy-version and use the sheet to decide what the weather is like everyday of the week. Draw and write the weather for each day!

Hi Year 2,
Hope you are all well, having lots of good sleep and spending time with family. Sorry I have been away but I am feeling a bit better now. Things have moved on really quickly and there have been lots of changes since I saw you over a week ago. I think it is great that you are able to continue your learning while you are at home. So here are some activities for this week.
Mathematics: Fractions
https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/7-11-years/fractions-and-decimals

- Build a Fraction. Practice building the fractions and notice how the fraction is written. Practice with the game for 20 minutes. Start at level 1 and move up to another level when it gets too easy. Then draw the shape and write the fraction to match.
- Move onto the other fraction activities if you can . Later you can move to Fraction intro.
Literacy: Reading and writing
Choose a story book for the week. Read it a few times for the week.
- Make a list of the tricky words
- Draw some pictures that shows the events in the story
- Write a retell of the story in your own words
Use your best joined up writing, use full stops and capital letters and interesting vocabulary.
Theme

- Read and find out about the different types of weather
- Write the name of each type of weather and what it means. Do some drawings to match your writing.

EMAILS FROM STAFF
We will be emailing on a weekly basis to update you on the work we plan for the class. This will give an overview of the themes covered and may also include links for your child to look at.
We will also monitor work on Purple Mash and give feedback where this facility is available.
While we are happy for you to email back if you have a question or query it may not always be possible to respond within the same day as we are working on a rota system to teach those pupils still attending school.
If we are unable to answer a question or feel that the email is not appropriate we may forward this on to Senior leaders in school to provide a response.
If you work with Maria our Learning Mentor: Wellbeing practitioner. She will be contracting you via phone, email or letter over the next few weeks- just to check in and say a friendly 'Hello' helping support children and families through what may be anxious and uncertain times.
Take care of each other.
Many thanks,
Virginia Baron
